It's not a big deal if it doesn't have it, but if it does, its bad. If you've ever seen a cobras pistons #8 that has had the head tick and compare it to any of the others you will see that 8 looks alot worse. I had some pics, lemmie see if I can find them.

Edit: also cobras put out about 365-375 avg but there have been some factory freaks, the highest one that i have ever seen was 417rwhp with just a K&N drop in filter

Even if you the head tick does piston 8 still show signs of wear and abuse?

If it does not tick that means it should be a problem. but you should do the cooling mod anyways as a precaution.

Here is a Link to some Info about the cooling mod and head tick.

Does abuse of speeding/burnouts/slides make this happen or does time and typical wear from driving? When does this typically happen to the pistons?

From what I understand It can just happen with normal driving in some cases.

Speeding probablly wouldn't be a factor but burnouts could trigger it because you would be sitting for a with out proper colling while you were doing your burnout.

Other things that may trigger it would be a pulley swap without the supporting cooling mods.

This is really a good question for the SVT section of this forum, they have alot more hands on experience with these issues.

Well I am still a couple months away from being able to buy something. I originally came to this forum to learn more about mustangs. I have always liked them but never gave them much thought. I always see young girls around my area driving GT's and I couldn't put myself in a "chick car" but the Cobra definitly is not and I have always known that. I just needed to know more about specialty 'stangs. Is there a way you can cut out the head ticking but getting to the problem first with a cooling part?

Is there a difference in the two hoods offered on Cobras? Being the one spoiler facing away from the driver and the two facing the driver?

If you do the Cooling mod you should never develop the head tick, but if you have the head tick, the only way to stop it is to replace the head.

The only hood that was offered for the 2003-2004 cobras was the twin heat extractors facing the driver.
