Default Engine Replacement

It is a 96 4.6L engine. It smokes when I start it up. It smokes when I accelerate after stopping at a stop sign. Its white smoke. I think it is either the piston rings or/and the valve guides on the heads.
Should I try to fix this engine or would it be easier to get a long block?
If yes on the long block, what are the exact specs on the engine, show me a price from an online store that has my engine.

More than likely if it is blowing white smoke it probably has a blown head gasket. If you wanna get a used a engine and you cant find one locally you can try car-part.com

I'd suggest locating a quality, used PI (99+) engine and installing that. You can find them for $1000 or less these days.

deffinatly pick yourself up a 99+ 4.6 and drop it in. Sounds like you blew your head gasket.

....or you can replace the head gasket and see if it smokes...if it doesn't then you just yourself $900 or so....

But why go thru the trouble of pulling the crappy NPI heads off and not putting on PI heads. I don't think it cost $900 to do a PI swap does it?

I ran across some ZERO mile 4.6L's. Came out of 2004 GT's. Comes with ECU, harnesses, CAI, EVERYTHING. Ready to drop in. Here is a link:

If you don't need the transmission, you get get it without it.

I have the same exact problem i just replaced all the valve seals and the pcv still no luck. And its not my head gasket cause its not antifreeze im burning its oil. The problem occurs SAME EXACT times that you mentioned. So i hate to say it but i think my rings are shot. But the good news is im gonna get a pi motor. Not brand new im not gonna pay that 4000 for that new motor. I found used ones for like 1300 they have anywhere between 30 and 50,000 there on that car part place that someone posted up there. But as for your problem... If your not losing antifreeze than idk how it could be a head gasket that makes no sense. I think your in the same boat as me unless your losing antifreeze than i would definatly say head gasket. Good luck its such a bad feeling when you dont know what is exactly wrong. I thought i'd be good after the seals but i was wrong. This SUCKS!!!! haha

Just make sure you get the harnesses, processor, intakes, accessories, etc. Sometimes that ads up. And you will need all that stuff for the swap.
