Default Reliablility Please help me out

Hey guys I am new to this site but not really to the Mustang world. I had a 1997 GT as my first car when I was 16 and that damn thing lasted till 189000 hard driven miles and it was still going when I gave her up. I am currently driving an Infiniti G35 coupe but I miss the V8 and the Mustang friendships I made honestly the G guys are just not my crowd. I have found a 2004 Mach 1 and a 2006 GT for about the same price and I am leaning on the Mach 1 because I just love the styling and I have never gotten to own a limited production vehicle. My question is how has reliability been? The car I am looking at is at 48000 miles driven by an older man here in my home town (he is 78). He is a friend of my granddad's and I know the car has been taken care of he is an old gear head but he just bought a GT500 and is getting rid of the Mach. I need this car to last me another 100 thousand at least because I am headed to law school and $$$$ will be TIGHT. I do take care of my cars but I will not lie I like to hit the gas too! Let me know what you think. Thank you and I hope to be back into the Stang world SOOOON!!

I got my '03 GT with 30k in December of 2006 and have 78k now. We generally keep our cars 'til 250k or so (my old '86 Corolla, a late '85 RWD actually, made it to 335k when I sold it), and I plan on doing the same with the GT.

Keep the oil clean, change it every 2500-3000 miles, and it will do fine. It sounds as though you understand the difference between driving a car forcefully and beating the crap out of one.

As to the choice--I'd go with the Mach I in a minute. It's a lot classier, and a whole lot nicer looking that the new ones...

Call BS on this one, idc.. but I know someone that drove a Dodge caravan around for work, and got a certain cut every month to tune up the vehicle.. I guess he changed the oil every like 1,500 miles and routinely checked the plugs, filter etc.. He also NEVER beat on this van.

The thing lasted like 450,000 miles and then the company got newer vehicles, lol

What is your issue?

Recently (I.e. over the last 20 years) my wife and I have run an '89 Celica GT to 308k, a '91 Cressida to 267k, a '90 Miata to 273k and a 92 Miata to 225k (both supercharged), a '96 RAV-4 to 198k (when we traded it for a 2003 Highlander).

Over the nearly 50 years I've been driving I've run a number of cars up to 200k+...

Properly maintained Toyotas don't break, my grandson has an '83 Toyota pickup with 263k on it that runs like new.
