my car just started doing that today. except when i floor it to pass someone on a 2 lane road, it revs really high and then drops into passing gear and i am afraid of breaking a u joint. also when i stop and hit the gas and the car is in overdrive it doesnt move, it acts like it is in neutral. my fluid level is fine.

I took my car to a trans shop today and he said that my trans is garbage. He said it would be cheaper for me to buy a new one or take the chance and do a 5 speed conversion. He said all the clutches were fried, and that i possibly have some broken gear teeth.

Does anyone have a 5 speed for sale?

swarthyfellow we are both in the same situation with school and a tight budget. i believe mine is from wear. I havent added any performance parts to the car yet be sides my ignition system. I have a slew of aftermarket parts waiting to be installed. but a parts list to do the trans swap would be nice.

I believe we need: Trans w/bellhousing, clutch kit w/flywheel, flywheel bolts, clutch & brake pedal assy, shifter w/boot, clutch adjuster w/cable and quadrant, and plug in the clutch pedal saftey wire.

That sounds like a good start to the parts list.... I know that you also have to trick the stock computer or replace it for the manual. I have a sniper tuner that can do that for me. I have heard that you can do the swap for about $1000 pre-labor if you can find some good used parts.

http://www.allfordmustangs.com/Detailed/25.shtml Looks like this is a pretty good write up and has the parts list we are looking for.
