Default Mystery part in front of engine compartment 4.6 vert.

Hey there! Just picked up a 98 Convertible. I popped the hood and noticed something I didn't have on my 97.

Can anyone help me identify this part? I have no idea what it is, my only guess would be a modified fan motor, as it's on what looks to be a home made mount. I've included 2 pics 1 close up, and one so you can see where in the bay it's at.. Thanks so much!

LoL.. Ok let's ignore the obviously home made bracket, and focus on the part it's holding.. Does anyone recognize it?

the pics are too dark and fuzzy. snap some new ones and get a better angle of it peferably from the engine looking at the front of the car.

Ok.. Here are some better shots.. I did just realize that it has some sort of vacuum hose coming from it that leads into the motor.. I highlighted the hose in 2 different shots where it leaves the unit and where it enters the motor.. Anyone??

I might be mistaken on that hose, as I took a glance at the photo again and that's the throttle cable, and I doubt that goes into that box.. Anyone yet?

Hmm thats weird. Where does the wiring go? Into the harness with the rest of the wiring? Or does it go directly to something?
