Default check engine light HELP!

on my 97 mustang GT the code reads bank 1 is running too rich, already replaced o2 sensors and the code came back. the car is running very rough and slow as if some cylinders arent working. i have no clue as to what is the problem, could the tune be wrong?

another problem is in the tranny. the clutch was replaced about 6 months ago and the bearings were not. now i believe i need to switch the input shaft bearing because there is a knocking noise in the engine and a whistling noise that goes away when clutch is engaged. i think the synchros are going bad cause its difficult to throw in occasionally, same with reverse i need to know eveything i should get done when getting trans work as i dont want further problems.

I would check your tune first (maybe try data logging?) Where did you get your tune? Was it dyno or email? can't really help ya on the Tranny questions...

Running rich Bank#1:

Change your spark plugs if they have alot of miles on them, if not take them out and clean & Re-gap them, and make sure the GAP is tight, Ford recommends .052-.054, but I strongly suggest gapping .050. (I'm running into this problem more and more and so far this fixes it every time).

Tranny/Clutch problems:

Pilot bearing and throw out bearing should have been changed with the clutch, nothing much you can do but pull the trans. and replace them.

As for shifting issues if you don't have one I suggest getting an adjustable clutch cable & quadrent. (Fiore or Steeda Only, BBK sucks!!!) Stock plastic Quadrents under the dash suck and cause more grinding and missed shifts than people realize (Mach 1's are famous for this).

Hope this helps, Good Luck.

What exact code did you get? There are 3 or 4 DTCs indicating a rich condition, they each have different potential causes.

The UPR 3-hook quadrant with their quick-click adjuster is a high quality package that works well with the OEM cable. Cal them up and say you want to pay $45 for both, they will accomodate you.

Here's what the shop manual says about P0172. Air and fuel systems mostly...
