Default Dying out!

Living in Hawaii is fine and dandy, till you need help with the car. The dealership can get my car in the shop one month from now. Sorry, but I have one car......can't go without one for a month. Here's the problem with my '99 GT:

When the car is cold it starts up and immediately dies out. The only way I can keep it from giving up is if I give it some gas. In between shifts, the car dies out, until it is warmed up...this can be anywhere between 3-15 minutes. It seems that there is some problem keeping a proper idle. A couple of times after starting it up, I came to a stop and you could tell it was trying to keep an idle....it appeared the RPMs were at less than 500 and the needle was fluctuating a bit, but it held stable and did not die out.

I've taken the car to Napa. The first time I brough it in they said it needed O2 sensors and I had to commission a welder to get the job done because the computer was not getting proper readings. This was total BS, the O2 sensors were sitting right there in the pipe. All the LEAD tech had to do was look under the car to see them.

The second time the car was brought in they got the ford dealership on the line and narrowed it down to the IAC (idle air control valve) that was fowled up. Once they cleaned it out the car ran well for a few days and the same symptons came back.

Logic would tell you something is causing the IAC to become fowled.

Before I took the car in I had the battery and alternator checked. Okay. I replaced the fuel filter and changed the spark plugs. Somoene else suggested cleaning the fuel injectors.

What do you guys think??

you may want to replace the iac. It sounds like that is definantly your problem. I cleaned mine out just like you did and it worked for a while (few weeks) but then started sticking again. Replaced it and no problems for a year now.

thank you for your help. I just needed someone else to concur with me....I bought a new IAC and will be installing it.........without NAPAs help! There is some truth to the old saying "if you want something done right, you gotta do it yourself." I wish I had a computer to run the diagnostics on my own!
