Because by upsizing the PULLEYS (correct spelling) you will spin the accessories 25% slower than stock pulleys making for less parasitic loss thus allowing the engine to rev over quicker in turn making better HP.

thank you......finally some support in this. drives me nuts when people spell it pullies.

not a single person on here hasn't read mustang magazines.....there's what a thousand pages of parts adds? how many times does it say pulleys in there?

also thanks for answering his question.....i didn't know the answer either.

The alternator, waterpump, and other systems run off of the pulley system are turned more than neccessary for optimum performance. It turns out that you are actually wearing out these accessories faster with the stock pulleys. Aftermarket underdrive pulleys correct this by lowering the amount that these accessories spin so that more of the power (which comes directly from your crank), can go to the wheels. The stock pulleys put unneccessary drag on the engine. In theory, switching to underdrive pulleys will help the accessories last longer, the car run more efficciently (better gas milage) and go faster. The only part that is proven is the go faster part.

pull-EZZ put less drag on the motor freeing up HP. And I dont agree stock ones wear out your accessories and slowing them down will make the accessory work better. Some people have cooling problems and many have charging problems with the UD's. From my experience at idle with alot of accessories on the Alt. does not have enough power.
