Default Help 4.6 DOHC Motor Help

I recently got a 4.6 DOHC motor from a junkyard for $100 bucks. I couldn't pass it up because it seemed to be in good shape. And the aluminum is probably worth more than that alone.

My question is....How do I identify what year the motor is (can't find casting numbers) and what it came out of? Any input or links would be greatly appreciated.

I have attached a photo to this post.

I concur with SVTeeshirt. Those intake runners look like the ones I saw on a Mark VIII engine.

Ok, well that being said....

Any idea where the casting number is on the DOHC motors? And if there is anybody that has a list online of what the numbers mean? I have search for hours on google and such and can't find jack.

Its either a continental or Mark VIII

Bank 1 side, towards the rear of the block, near where the trans bolts up, should be a tag

Like everyone else said, definately a MKVIII engine. This means it has the desireable Teksid block, same as the 96-98 (and a few after that as well) Cobra. Same heads as the Cobra engine as well (intake cam has a slightly different profile), but the crank is cast not forged. But this is all pretty common knowledge, what are you trying to identify about this engine?

Yup, good find there. That Teksid block is worth some $$$$ on its own.

I have truly tried searching lots of places on the net to find info about this motor. Do any of you know a good online resource or a book I could buy? We pulled the motor apart and it has hardly any wear on the crank bearings. The cylinders just need to be honed from minimal surface rust from being stored.

We are just going to revive this motor enough to where it is dependable and put it in our 65 F100 truck. Will a Cobra ECU run this motor or will I have to find a Lincoln variant?
