Default Performance Increased? (PI)? Now with additional questions about intake...

I know it's a dumb quest, but I've searched all over the place and the engine either gives me a bunch of unneeded results or it says that my term is used too often or is too short.

How would I know if my mustang has a PI motor? I have a 99 GT and I need a new intake. I know for a fact that the intake I bought is PI.

Thanks for helping out

If it has the original motor, it's a PI motor.

Performance Improved

In '99 Ford redesigned the heads and intake manifold, and changed the cams a bit. Upped horsepower from 215-225 up to 260.

Quarter mile times dropped almost a full second according to some sources.

Both of you guys have PI cars obviously since they became equipment starting on the '99 Mustang. Some of the F-150's/Grand Marquis/Crown Vics/Explorers didn't get them until later.

I didn't know that either so don't feel bad. I learn a lot from this board.

In 99 they changed over to the PI engines in the mustangs.

Intake manifold was vastly improved, with higher flow and almost dbl the runner length

The cams were vastly improved

The pistons had a changed shape, to go with the reshaped cylinders on the new heads.

The heads were vastly improved, with longer intake runners, larger exhaust ports, different shaped intake ports, different shaped cylinders, and bigger valves.

Mustang HP went from 215 to 260 stock

I've seen PI engines on 99+ mustangs, Crown vics, and I believe I've heard of them in explorers as well.

Thanks for the info. I guess I won't have to worry about any other hardware for the new intake outside of gaskets and possibly replacing the thermostat. It was hard to find info about PI and NPI on the internet because I just kept getting aftermarket parts and stuff.

Thanks for clearing it all up, 72MachOne99GT.

With the exception of the crossover which still was plastic (prone to breaking) until the aluminum crossover was added '01
