Traction w/ 4.10's or 3.73's
My cars in the garage for the winter right now but im buying parts to install..one of them is a set of gears. am i going 2 have major traction issues with my brand new 275 BFG g-force sports with 4.10's? I am planning on buying a set of drag radials but not as soon as it comes out of the garage....will i have the same problem if any if i go 3.73's?...if so what type of drag radial would u suggest?
Thanks.
Thanks.

i think it depends mainly on what you want with the car. gonna be a car you take to the track a lot and don't drive every day. or sumthin u take to the track every once and awhile and drive on the street a lot. i think anytime u change your gears it will have a little effect on your traction but i would not consider it major. and if you are lookin at DR, if you plan on racing it a lot i hear the Mickey Thompsons hook the best, and if if mainly a street car but will see the track on occasion the Nitto DR is good because it has a better tread life but doesn't hook as well.

I'd go with 3.73s for all around driving. With either you will spin 1st and thru 2nd if you shift hard enough.. but obviously 4.10s will spin a little more. Your not gonna be able to roll 2nd and blow the tires off, but the 1-2 shift will keep on spinnin. IF your spinning in 1st and shift to second while spinning, then you will keep spinning second, if you can get 1st to hook up before shifting, then you'll get a little wiggle in 2nd and it should scoot along just nice

Your best bet would be a spare set of 15x8 rims with 275/50 MT DR's if you gonna be hitting the track hard next session, otherwise use a nitto DR on your wheels you have. I would suggest a 4.10 for a N/A car, you might as well do it right the first time. Its safe to say you will make up the difference of traction with the DR's, and slipping the clutch if you do start to spin. A 4.10 will pull harder and help you top in which is usually a weak point for a N/A GT.

At the track you will need some tire otherwise you wont go anywhere. Just gona sit there and spin through first 3 gears. As for the street you'll be okay as long as you dont go too crazy mashing on the throttle.

It took me awhile to land a decent ET after I did 4.10s. You just have to use restraint when launching and shifting. The gears actually hurt my ET some until I got a few runs in.
After that, my ET still only dropped a 2-3 tenths, but my trap speed went way up, 3-4 mph depending on conditions, etc. Anyway, to answer your question about traction more clearly, the answer is definitely YES, both will effect your traction substantialy. 4.10s especially. I never got to really utilize mine being that I was on street tires. It would just spin for days if I pushed to hard.
