RE: 96 GT, the first of the 4.6's
well obviously i got hosed, thanks for rubbing it in. i wasnt implying all 96 gts are p.o.s merely advising him to be careful and look it over well. yeah my car was beat to hell by the previous owner, and i should have looked it over better. but after maybe 2 weeks of repairs and refit, it is like a new car now. as for the pi head issue, i solved that problem by buying a sc s281engine thats going in as soon as i get the last few parts in.

The heater core went out in mine, as well as the radiator fan motor just went out on Sunday. The stater went out for no reason also back in October and my car only has 73 thousand but i still love my car and its style.

I called the guy and he told me to call him back in an hour. Just from reading some of the problems, I would say you all agree on getting new heads but as long as these motors dont fall over and die then I'll buy this car. Heater core, fan motor, all that stuff is small junk that can be replaced easily. Well im going out to eat now and then I'll give the guy another call. He probably wont want to show me the car tonight if it gets to late.

About the 4.6, it wasn't the first year for the motor. Ford was putting them in Lincoln Town Cars starting in like 92 or 93. It was designed for east-west engine space and front-wheel drive. However, it's application now was how it was used then. The 96 Stang was not a total experiment, Ford new what they were doing. I have driven one 96 GT that had 150,000+ on it, and I know for a fact it had been abused. That thing still runs rock hard. I hit the rev on that baby twice, and scratched third. It had had a lot of stuff done to it, and it was beasty. But still runs today, rock solid.

Well I went to go look at the car and its a gem. The only thing I worried about it that it was repainted about 2 years ago and the person put on running pony badges besides GT badges. Other than that its perfect. So I drove the car ( crazy strong compared to my modded 6) and I told the guy I would take it. Well he listed it for $4000 so I told him I'll give him that and we'll be done, but now hes saying he wants $4300 and he wouldnt sell it to me untill he shows some other guy tomorrow. I was like WTF! So I told him again. I'll give you what you listed right now in cash, and he still said he wasnt going to sell it yet. So what the hell am I supposed to do now but wait. If it doesnt sell( highly unlikely) then I'll go pick it up tomorrow but if it does, O well, autotrader here I come.....again.
Good info man.

The problems I hear about most often for the first two years of the 4.6L are the intakes cracking, the head gaskets blowing, and exhaust leaks on the right exhaust manifold gasket. Nothing else stands out.

dang pip that sucks. he must be having second thoughts about selling it. About every 2 weeks i get the idea to sell mine and get a 99+ gt. But I never list it, i have a for sale sign sitting in my trunk though i will probably not put my car up for sale. When i go to ebay and see 98 cobra's for 10-12 k or 99 35th anniv. GT for like 9k im like HMMMMMMMMMMM......... but i just can't bring my self to sell my car. Love it too much!!!!
