I just did trans swap and had to take the starter off. hell of a lot easier to get to the top bolt with the mid pipe off, just if you dont take it off, good luck getting the top bolt back in.

Honestly, I never put that bolt back in on Mustangs... Thats with my friend's car tho...not customer cars..
