Default New Wheels

I will be buying new wheels this winter / spring and my question is, what will be the advantage, disadvantage with a larger diameter wheel in the rear. The reason I ask is because instead of buying four new wheels, I will just buy (2) 18x9 offset bullits with some 275's, and keep the 17x8's with the 245's in the front. That should give me the larger tire I need, the "deep dish" look I like and not reduce my gear any as well as not having my vehicle "track" the road with the 275's in the front..............right?

Some new high end sports cars come from the factory with larger diameter wheels in the rear, (Corvette Z06 / ZR1) and they don't look funny.

17x9's with 275's in the front and 17x10.5's with 315's in the rear is WAY too much wheel tire combo for my application! Do your research and you will find vehicles with a lot more power and handling cababilites with much less wheel and tire combo's. I am not so much concerned with how my car looks as much as I am with how fast it goes down the road and through the twisties.

Rotating mass x rolling resistance + contact patch = loss of et! I'll build a suspension to make up real estate in the twisties.

I don't believe there is an advantage to running a larger wheel in the rear. In fact, the trend for most of the guys on here running the strip from time to time is to go down to a 15" wheel, not up to an 18".

I understand your point but, the overall diameter is smaller by a couple of tenths of an inch with the 18 in than with the 17 in wheel, the difference is made up in the sidewall of the tire.

Yes, but if you want the car to hook and have traction, you want more sidewall, not less. Any performance guy on here is going to tell you an 18" wheel is for looks, not better performance.

I agree 100% you need more sidewall not less. A 15'' would be a lot better choice.

AM has some real nice deep dish wheels...I would go with 17x9's up front with the 10.5's out back!
