Default 3.27 to 4.10 gearing question.

if i go from 3.27 to 4.10, what are my approximate gains and losses verse each other? I have a flowmaster exhaust and CAI.

What do you mean gains and losses vs. each other? You're not going to gain or loss any HP/TQ, you're just modifying the way the car accelerates and the speed you'll be at in each gear.

Your are gonna gain a ****load of acceleration, and loose a lot of rubber off your tires in the process.. I dont see any downsides to that

Car will accelerate faster, might lose a little gas mileage (very little) and it is by the best bang for the buck other than going with nitrous, sc, or turbo.

I just got a 99 4.6 i am new to mustangs so i got a couple of question. The motor has port and polished heads and manifold, flowmaster exhaust and headers, aluminum block with 10 to 1 compression, 373 gears. and yeah it runs good but i want to add more HP what would be the best bang for the money? and maybe someone would know what kind of HP this motor would have?

I meant gains versus losses like..how much mpg would i lose...what is the potential gain (loss) in the 1/4 mile, how much off my top speed do i lose? etc.

You won't lose any top speed, our cars run out of HP well before they run out of RPMs. Here's my "How fast can I go it what gear" calculator--play with various axle ratios and see what you like...

10.1:1 compression is .5 more than we normally have. To get good power i would go with nitrous for the best bang for the buck. Since you have a higher compression, you car will run better N/A so i would stick to that. Unless you car has a built motor then it could handle more than 8 psi of boost. I dont know the kind of power it might have but its safe to say more than 200+ RWHP .

theres not much to lose with changing gears. if you drive all city you probably wont see much a diffrence in MPG highway you will lose some gas milage since youll be at a higher RPM at highway speeds. from what i hear (i dont have new gears yet) around 2-4 MPG someone with gears can maybe tell you for sure. but your driving can change your MPG 2-5 MPG so its nothing really big...as far as top speed like someone said you wont lose anything iv hit 150 with tons of RPM to go. and ill be able to hit it again after gears. other then that only thing you will be able to notice when you change gears will be how fast you pick up speed. and you will notice that WAY more then only "down sides" to getting gears.
