Default Rear end install kit question

OK, so I decided on the 3.73 gear set and I need to buy an install kit so I get new bearings and stuff.
Here's a stupid question... is my 02GT a 8.8" rear end? I'm pretty sure, but was surprised when I saw a kit for a 7.5"!?

And what's the recommended gear oil and additive?

Thanks guys...

Hey man mark this day (10 Jan 09). You will reget going with 3.73's especially if you plan on staying N/A. I installed my 410's and saw very little as far as lost gas mileage but a big gain in getting into my car's powerband. Not trying to discourage you but if you haven't installed the 373's, think about the 410's, you want be sorry.............

+1 4.10s fte

and the 7.5 Rear is for the sixxers FYI and lizzys links are what you need, i suggest having a shop doing it, no offense but if you didn't know if you had an 8.8 rear end you probably shouldn't be doing gears lol.

I completely agree rear end are pretty complicated, ya know with all the right shims and making sure you have the right turning torque in the pinion, yeah if you didn't know what rear end you had, please don't even attempt to do this. You screw it up and you'll probably trash the whole rear end and the new gears. Its not just a bolt in part!!!!

Hmm.... well I've read enough of these threads that I figured I'd be attacked in some way for not going with 4.10's, however I have already chose the 3.73's and got a good deal on them with a low mileage trac-lok to boot! I drive 60 miles a day highway for work. I chose the Stang recently (purchased in Oct. 08) over my little 4 cylinder that was getting 31mpg. So I've already taken a pretty good hit on mileage, but I knew I would and accepted it. I don't race or drive like a madman, but I enjoy the quick acceleration even now and then. I've read posting where plenty of guys were happy with their 3.73's, if I'm not I guess I'll change em later . I installed 3.55's (complete 3rd member) in my 78 Vette and was happy with the outcome and acceleration. I think I'll be good with 3.73's and I was pretty sure it was 8.8", just wanted to pick some expert brains and right after I posted I figured out it was a stupid question. And NO, I won't attempt the install myself. I simply wanted to have everything to take to the installer of my choice.

Thanks for the input guys...
