Well a few months ago, my 98 GT started to make a knocking noise, only happens in gear and while driving..(cant hear it at idle). The higher the rpms, the faster the noise gets..the thing is when i parked it in the garage to let sit until i had time and money to fix it..the rear differential drained all over my floor. I havent drove it for about 3 months and now im wondering if the motor is actually blown, or if the drivetrain is making the noise..Is this possible? I havent had it checked out by any mechanics, cant afford it. But my dad is a mechanic and has been for like 20 years and said its probably from the motor, even tho he didnt really look at it..lol Can the drivetrain/transmission cause this noise?
Well, its not that easy, hes a busy guy. Hes getting old and hes in the process of getting re-married..so i try to leave him alone as much as i can...just asking if a tranny or something can trick you into thinking your motor is blown lol...
Probably can. I mean maybe something went out of balance. Flywheel or throwout bearing. I dont know much but those are some things that i would have checked out too.
If you rev the car in neutral does it make the sound? If it only does it while its in gear I would think its something other than the engine, if it were the engine it would make noise no matter what.
