get an 03. Its the best year. My car now has 180,000 miles on it. Ive driven the wheels off it everyday since I bought it back in 04 and it already had 36,000 miles. The original engine took tons of abuse and was running perfect at 172,000 miles when it blew. Only reason it blew is because we put 15lbs of boost through it. I really dont care how many miles it has anymore. The car itself isnt really worth that much for resale anyways. Ive rebuilt almost everything on the car and dont plan on selling it. It has new engine, drivetrain, rearend, front suspension, interior and everything....Looks and runs better than new

Is that possible? Someone mensioned midway through 01 the transmission was impoved?

Is the defective timing chain tensioner a fluke?

I found a 99 gt with 54K for 8K seemed like a decent deal for a nice rig..

Try and talk him down from that price, and get the car.
54K is considered fairly low mileage.

I've had no problems with my car and I bought it used.

Only quirk is that the manual shift doesn't like to go into reverse. If I put the lever in 3rd then reverse, things line up.

mines an 02, 5spd, at 70k miles the engine was replaced due to losing all oil pressure...not sure how or why it happened. yay extended warranty.

on days below 55 degrees the car grinds into 2nd gear regardless of how i shift for the first few minutes/miles.

its slow to...i think thats the worst part...but easily fixable just takes moneys...that of which i dont have right now

Damn 10.2k makes me spending 15750 two years ago for my mint stang look like crap. I wish the value of our cars would hold better. This ecomony sucks, not like I would ever sell my car, I have way to much invested in it.

mine has 185,000+ miles and never had any major problems that were the cars fault. its an automatic and sometimes it doesnt want to shift like it used to but its only when i keep the pedal slightly pressed down, its like its confused whether to shift or not. no big deal though for a car with that many miles... if u take care of it the car should last 200,000+

I'm impressed!
Do you keep the tranny in 2nd gear around town, to cut down on the shifts? I'm interested because I have an Auto(with enough mods to sink the Titanic) and would like to keep this car until the day I die.

And thats a great point, a lot of things that go wrong, aren't the cars fault. It's the users.
Ex. my fuel pump crapped out at 88,000....And I would constantly let the fuel tank get to Empty...which overheats the fuel pump, and quickly clogs the filter.

The comments I am getting a pretty much what I expected. Seems to be a lot of hit and miss on quality. I will see whats out there, I have always wanted the V8 mustang but lately I have been getting tempted by the 99-05 celica GT.. 35-40mpgs sure does sound good.. But you can beat the roar of the GT's V8... ahhh the choices
