My GT's feeling hurt.....

RE: My GT's feeling hurt.....
Changing the fuel filter is easy as falling off a log. Crawl under the back of the car and look up behind and top of the gas tank. It's hanging right there attached to a couple of rubber hoses.
Here's a service manual description.
REMOVAL
WARNING: FUEL SUPPLY LINES ON ALL VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH FUEL INJECTED ENGINES WILL REMAIN PRESSURIZED FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME AFTER ENGINE SHUTDOWN. FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE MUST BE RELIEVED PRIOR TO FUEL SYSTEM SERVICE TO PREVENT POSSIBLE PERSONAL INJURY OR A FIRE HAZARD.
1. Disconnect the battery. For additional information, refer to Battery.
2. Relieve the fuel system pressure.
3. Raise the vehicle. For additional information, refer to Maintenance/Service and Repair.
4. Disconnect the filter push connect fittings.
5. Unsnap the filter from the bracket and remove.
INSTALLATION
1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Great instructions...one problem...it doesnt' tell you HOW to relieve the fuel pressure. I just pull the fuel pump fuse, start the engine, then let it run til it dies. Then I crank it once or twice for a second or two. Keep in mind when you replace the fuel filter you will have to crank it for a bit to get it to reprime the system. Don't crank for more than 30 seconds at a time with about a minute wait between cranks, Otherwise you may burn up your starter.
You can do this for most cars. Ones that use cross fire injection (Trans am/late model camaros) do not recommend this method because you have to reprime the system which sometimes requires a handheld pressure guage.

RE: My GT's feeling hurt.....
Other option, is to vent the system using the Shreider(sp?) valve on the fuel rail. Use a rag... Usually not a great deal of pressure or fuel. Just remember not to do this on a hot engine.

RE: My GT's feeling hurt.....
I think it was lagging because I had my A/C on. I bought the car in september so I have never used the A/C. I didnt relieze it steals some much power from the crank. Does anyone know what percent or amount of power loss thats due to the A/C?
