Default Ticking normal for 4.6L ?

I've noticed that the 2000 GT I have ticks while under heavy throttle / torquing. It is very similar sounding to engine knock, but I don't think it is because it sounds identicle whether running 87 or 92 octane. Is this normal ?

No it doesn't tick at all while idling, it's perfectly smooth, only while under HEAVY throttle. It really sounds like pinging.. I'm not sure if the timing is advanced I just got the car a week ago, but it really disturbs me that it ticks under load.

has the car had any mods done to it? the people before you could have put a timing adjuster on it possibly.

Yeah I'd have to look into that.

Does this mean that you need a special mod just to adjust the timing ?? You can't do it with a timing light ??

right. The timing is computer controlled. You can not adjust the timing on these cars without either a timing adjuster or a tuner (or chip).

Well there is no timing adjuster, and I haven't been able to locate a tuner (where would this normally be ??).

Let's assume the timing IS stock (10 degrees I think ?). Is pinging still possible ? Also I was thinking a small exhaust leak might cause a similar noise while under throttle.
