Default idling problem

i have a 99 gt and i just installed a cold air intake from american muscle. after the install, the car sounds like its chocking or something and sputtering when i have it in drive and sitting still. it bounces from about 550rpm to 500rpm, back and forth when i am sitting at a light or am just still. anyone have any ideas?

one of the metal fastening straps i got was too small so i only have one at the top of intake pipe where it meets the throttle body, could this be the problem? air is escaping or something... i dont know

That could be your problem. If you pop your hood and get your ear near it, can you hear air escaping?

1) Check the hose that connects from your Air Intake to your engine-connects to the heads on the rightside. If that's lose, leaking, or gapping. You'll idle funny. This happens to me a lot. The hose will come lose every once in a while and make it idle funny.
2) Check your IAC. Yours looks like this.

IAC's can be cleaned(use the search button) depending on the condition, or replaced all together for cheap.
3) Check your MAF. If needed, buy a cleaner for it and follow the instructions.

+1. I actually forgot about the hose that connects to the heads coming loose. That actually used to happen to me until I clamped it.

Also check to make sure you didnt disconnect the electrical connection to the Mass air Flow.

The CAI may have a smaller inlet for that hose, which may be letting too much unfiltered/hot air into the engine. Next time you see your engine, give that hose a little twist and if it's super loose that could be your problem.

Good luck!

You might have a leak some where as they mentioned, get a carb cleaner spray, and spray it on your CAI joints and all the joints where your engine vacum hoses connect (One at a time), if the engine dies or it idles differently (RPM drops) thats where you have the leak.

so i took the car to a ford dealership service place........ they say i need a #7 coil, coil wires, a new throttle positioning sensor and my injectors cleaned.... $750 including labor

i got a quote for that stuff and labor from another shop for $420

does this stuff sound like somethin that effects the idling and acceleration problems im having? the cold air intake install could just have been a coincidence with all of these problems after being in the winter i guess. that price sound fair?
