Heli-coiling is the preferred method.

we use thread inserts at my shop. pack the tap they give you with heavy grease to catch the shavings. run the tap down where the plug used to be. put the insert on a new plug with sealer on the insert to head threads and dielectric grease on the sparkplugs threads and run the insert into the threads you made. remove the sparkplug. hit the insert with the punch/spreader in the kit. let the sealer set then torque the new plug in and your good to go. done a few this way and it works great no problem.

That is EXACTLY how i did it, i had to do a few extra things because of the tapered seats but it worked itself out, best bet if youcan do it yourself cost me $30.

I rigged up a vacuum extension thingy bobber with a rubber hose and got everything out of the cylinder while it was sitting ON the piston. That works as well. Just takes some finaggleing to get down in the hole all the way.

I love technical terminology.

**** i can't remember the brand but you will be able to tell by the kit, it should come with 3 thread inserts, a tap, and the punch that sets the insert.

Is it Time-Sert? They look promising, it has the locking threads. So does the kit come specific for the car or do i have to figure out somehow witch insert to use?

it may be most kits are universal, the thing i like about the one i use is the tap comes with a 3/8 chock on the end so you can use an extension and ratchet to cut the threads (makes it easy with the deep plug tunnel). you use the insert with the same length of threads as your plug.
