Default Challenging question?

Two pistons cracked on my engine, while disabling the engine I notice a big piece missing on both pistons but even though I looked everywhere could not find the pistons pieces. Now the question is: Where did they go? My only guess is the exhaust. If they did manage to sneak somehow into the headers, do I have to take the headers out and clean them?

if youre taking your engine appart, how much more work is it to unbolt your headers from the mid pipe and check to see if theres a possibility that the missing pieces are down there. I assume you already checked the oil pan.

The headers are welded to the mid pipes, that's why I'm asking.

If anything they would be in the oil pan.
