Default Top strut nut

Im installing my CC plates tomorrow and from what ive hear, the top strut nut is a pain in the *** to get off. Whats the best way to go about it without and air wrench?

metal tube on the end of the rachet for leverage. hopefully the strut wont spin on you or it will be very hard. (it probably will spin btw)

i've heard the best way to hold the strut in place if it spins is with a claw hammer

A big screw driver or pry bar to go in the slot on the top of the strut and and 3'-4' pipe on the end of an open end wrench should do it.

Go to Harbor Freight and buy their electric 1/2" impact wrench. It's a clone of a Black and Decker Industrial unit from the early 80's, I've had one (the HF clone) for 17 years now and have had it so hot you couldn't hold it in your hand more than once.

The only problem I've had was that the switch broke after 10 years or so--got a new one from HF parts people for less than $5.00 shipped. It's rated at 240 ft/lbs and delivers at least 200, at $40 it's a steal. Take the online description with you and they will usually meet the price at the store.

just did my brothers this past weekend nd it wasnt too bad. we uses a cresent on the bolt part itself and another crestent to undo the nut. we did have one that wanted to spin at the very end, but we just worked the nut back and forth til it gave.

edit: impact will be alot easier though if you have it.

thats not very strong. i used to have one rated at around that and it was a disappointment on the real tough bolts. i have a 750 lb/ft. now and its almost perfect. still has a bit of trouble on super tough bolts though.

you could always take the strut down to a shop and throw them a few bucks to take it off.

when we did my c/c plates we had air tools, when we did my shocks/struts we had air tools. took seconds. air tools are the ****.

That is what i did minus the 3-4ft pipe. Damn i didn't know people were having problems with those nuts. I thought is was super easy with just hand tools and a drill.
