Default ugh- Camshaft position sensor

Quick question, I have an '02 gt, for about the last 4 months, its been a pain to start, it usually takes 3 or 4 times before it'll actually start and stay running, the check engine light is on, code is for the camshaft position sensor, i've changed that 3 times now, each time it still does the same thing and throws the code.. I noticed that when I changed it, there was some oil on the sensor, is this normal? and, if not what do I need to look into doing next? Also, if it is normal, what else could be causing this? Thanks for your help!

Take your alternator off and have it tested at autozone. Hope you have the $$$ for a new alternator because I guarantee your alternator is bad.

could be ur alternator, cam sensor, crank sensor, or any aftermarket light or gauge that could possibly be backfeeding causing that code to throw...im assuming its code 1336 camshaft/crankshaft sensor range performance...i just got mine fixed with the crank sensor being replaced

When the alt. goes bad it emits a EMF which screws with the cam sensor. 98% of the time this is the cause for the cam sensor code popping up.

that code can be a pain in the *** if you don't know what to look for. to add to what ox said, it happens when a diode in the regulator goes bad and interferes with the cps signal (they're on the same harness) you can either have it rebulit or just buy a new alt

Going through this same thing right now on my 03 GT. Engine light came on so I went to AutoZone and had it checked..said CPS was bad. 20 bucks no problem so I went home changed it, reset computer and light went away...for about 30 miles. So when the light came back on I took it to a Ford Dealer because I thought it might be something deeper. 3 days and 300 bucks later (one day to run the test, one day waiting on the part and one day to change it) they called and said the CPS was bad. Told them I already changed that...they then told me my new part was bad. So I said fine went and picked up my car. The next night damn light came back on..so now the car went back today. They called a little bit ago and said it's throwing the same code and they are goin to look into changing the main computer. If they are going to just throw parts at it I can do that alot cheaper...jeez. Think I'll go buy a new Alt. and put that on myself this weekend. This Ford Dealer has been selling and working on my families cars for 20 years. Guess I need to find a new place.

It is the alternator as stated, Did it in my 02. The ford dealer and any car store like autozone will tell you it's your sensor because that's the code its throwing.
