Good luck, I'm glad to hear that that was the issue, it should be a pretty easy fix.

ok....ripped the tires and calipers off of the car today. that shouldve eliminated the problem as now there are no rotors, calipers, brake pads, or tires on the rear end of my car to bind the hub. but it still doesnt rotate freely...

how can i tell for sure if its the axle bearing and hub assembly...and not something simple i am missing?

well when your turnin the rear axles they are still connected to the diff gears, and then to the driveshaft, and then to the transmission. so you gotta remember your turning ALL of that stuff. and also for your feeling like the car is really bogging down, my yellow stang is like that, when its a hot day outside the car feels like a fricking 6cyl, really bogged down, thats just what temp and humidity will do to a motor. and for your gas mileage, i would check the O2 sensors, it might not throw a MIL but it could be giving a bad reading and causing the motor to run rich as hell.

when i try to rotate the hub itself its actually a gigantic PITA to get it to move at all. It shouldnt just spin and spin and spin, but when i am trying to rotate it, it should move pretty easily.

Plus when it feels slow the engine isnt bogging and it doesnt "feel" slow, it feels like i have a whale sitting on my trunk forcing the rear end of my car into the ground like its squatting.

how about when you turn the Drive shaft? is that a lot easier? what gears do you have installed, because if they are shimmed wrong the wont turn easily.

I'm happy when I get 13 mpg, but then again I only do stop 'n go city driving. When I do get it out on the highway I get 28 mpg.

i dont think the mustang can accumulate sludge unless it sits for a long time and never starts.. there really no area in the block for the oil to pool up and not get circulated. correct me if im wrong but im pretty sure im right.

Turning the drive shaft is twice as easy as spinning the hubs. I can spin the DS with one hand, and either of the hubs i need two hands on the tire, or with the tire off i brace the lug studs with the tire iron for leverage and then use both hands to spin.

the gears are all still factory.

Ozz...i would kill for 28mpg highway, which is why my car is now torn apart....i havent even started my other spring break projects yet. bummer

my uncle and i both think it might be the differential...which blows. the brake pads didnt show any signs of additional wear, and like i said earlier, the hubs still dont spin even with everything off. Additionally, the DS spins like it should, and the differential is the only thing between it and my wheels.

also, if the hub bearings went bad, there would be a pretty distinct humming noise coming from my rear wheels, which there is not. plus, what are the odds that both hub bearings went out at the same time?

i ran out of daylight so i am going to check the rear fluid tomorrow...if its empty then I am boned, or if there are shavings in the fluid i am boned....but then again if there isnt, I am back to square one and have no idea all over again.

does that sound right to everyone else? i like thinking things through and you guys always seem to suggest other options that i hadnt thought of before.

it seems i might be getting my 4.10s installed a hell of a lot sooner than i expected.
