Default 96 GT...Bad brakes or worn shocks?

When we bought our daughter's 96 GT a few weeks ago, I felt the car needed a "brake job" so I (personally) replaced all 8 brake pads, put on new rear rotors, had the front rotors turned, and bled the brakes at the wheels starting with the driver front and finishing with the passenger rear.

The brakes work and stop the car, but I expected a considerable improvement in the "feel", and that didn't change much (if at all.)

It still seems like too much effort is required for hard braking, and the "pedal feel" isn't very smooth. It seems to pulse almost like a warped rotor, but not quite as dramatic or consistent as that. It's more like the pedal isn't very well isolated from the braking system and I can feel the components jostling around doing their thing...if that makes sense.(?)

Based on your experience, does it sound like I still have a problem with the brakes or could this "bad pedal feel" be coming from old shocks/struts? I tried the old-school "bounce the car" test and the shocks/struts seem okay.

I've never owned a '96 GT before (or any SN95 model) so I'm not sure if this is normal or not, and what if anything can be done to fix it.

Oh yes, car has 141K on it, and I don't know if the shocks/struts are original.

Thanks for your opinions on this...

My car has 45k on it and the brakes seem to suck. I assumed it was a mustang thing but I could be wrong. All my rotors are smooth and the pads have plenty of meat left on them.
