Cobra of that ear had the better block. Was some issues with overheating. They need RPMs to make power but the GT of the day is dog if its stock. No doubt the 4 valve heads have more potential.

Your question is very broad, but I'll do my best. 96-98 Cobra have an aluminum teksid block that can handle anything you want to do. The pistons and rods limit you to around 450hp, the crank is forged. In stock form, there are no problems with these engines and have proven to be very reliable. They do not like to be low on oil, they will spin a bearing if you give them a chance, so just make sure you always have it full of oil. The weakest link in the drive train is the transmission, T45. The T45 is famous for eating the synchros. The symptoms of a worn out T45 is a grind on high RPM (6k+) shift from 1st-2nd or 2nd-3rd. The heads on these cars love to rev and make great power especially with a turbo. As with all mustangs, the power seats love to crap out. There are some slight differences from the 96-97 and the 98 and I personally like the 96-97. If you have more questions, please be a little more specific.
