Default Do Girdle Supports Even work?

The factory stock Mustang 8.8 rear end in theory can support about 400 horsepower. Unfortunately this is not always the case and this can leave people upgrading to aftermarket axles and differentials much earlier then expected as their horsepower begins to climb. Fortunately for us, the good folks at Granatelli Motor Sports have come up with a way to greatly strengthen your factory rear in about 30mins and at a fraction of the cost of replacing your differential.

The Granatelli Motor Sports 8.8 Girdle Support System (a.k.a. differential cover) for 1979-2009 Mustangs features heavy duty, yet lightweight, cast aluminum construction, drain and fill plugs, and premium hardware. It substantially increases your rear strength, durability, and lifespan, and is a direct fitment to OEM 8.8” differentials.

The Kit includes all necessary hardware, including gaskets and bolts. An exclusive bearing support system prevents side load bearing deflection. The Granatelli Motor Sports 8.8 Girdle Support System for 1979-2009 Mustangs gives the old adage, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” a whole new meaning!

Features:

* Fits 1979-2009 Mustangs with factory 8.8" rear ends
* Direct OEM replacement
* H.D. aluminum girdle system
* Improves rear end life & durability, dissipates heat faster
* Exclusive bearing support system prevents side load bearing deflection

Yes they work but it's only a "PART" of the total package.

The girdle keeps the pinion from pushing the ring gear out which can bust spider gears and strip the ring gear and pinion. It's worth the money.

I think it's a stalker wing. I picked up a gt that had a complete stalker kit on it and swaped everything out. I got the wing, rear bumper and hood anyway. The side skirts were busted on the other car and I liked my cobra front bumper better than the stalker.

The girdle does work and it's well worth the money. UPR sells one for $100 and Summit has one for $135. It's almost worth that just to have a reasonably placed drain and fill plug. I just bought the Summit one and will be installing it with a set of 4.10's in May. It is not a cure-all though. Don't think that if you put on a girdle, you can build your car to 1000hp and launch it at 6k rpm w/ slicks and think it's not going to break. It's just one way to help provide some strength to the weak stock rear, every little bit helps.
