Thats great. but unless you lowered your oil pump pick-up you can easily starve for oil.

Acording to this pic i would say it would be a bad idea to run 7+ qts if your s/c.

Not true since my canton pan is the same depth as stock but holds the extra oil by the additional side length.

You really didn't read any of the links did you? If you had you would understand the problem.

Tell me what to look for because I'm too lazy to read it all.

When I built my engine I measured the length of the pick up tube and the depth of the pan when deciding if I wanted to use the windage tray or not. The pickup is 1/2in above the bottom of the pan. Using the windage tray would have put the pickup 3/4in above the bottom of the pan. I wouldn't lower the pickup at all unless using a windage tray.

By the way anyone want to buy a windage tray?

The problem is keeping the pick-up submerged under extreme conditions.
The pan is 2 quarts low at idle. How low do you think it is at WOT? Maybe I should post the whole quote from the Ford tech. That may answer some questions.

"When at Ford, we ran with clear pans, windowed front covers and cam covers. The oil under high rpms gets slowed in the heads, the front cover and the front of the oil pan. As the chain drives the cam system, the oil is trying to get down thru the cover area. Also the area around the front of the pan shares space with the oil pump and pickup tube. Oil is tryig to get back to the pan and everything is in the way.

The drain back holes are the same between 2v, 3v and 4v.

Ford conducts a WOT test for 100's of hours.

On the street you don't see consistent 6,500+ runs. On the track, I suggest you add 1 qt. Adding 1 qt does not over fill the pan to the point that the crank or rods run thru it. When at idle, you're 2 qts low anyways."

Ok yeah thats with a stock pan where it only holds 4qts in the pickup area. but with an aftermarket pan like moroso, mmr or canton where it holds alot more oil in the pickup area you will not run the risk of starving the pickup. Thats why ford put the canton pans on the 2000 cobra r.

What is the benefit of running more oil in a larger pan? I just used alittle over 5.5 and it read alittle below full. The manual says 6 quarts but it says if it reads between min and max then it is fine...
