i have a 97 mustang gt and i am doing a pi head swap. i am also installing long tube headers and stage 2 cams and valve springs. im using 02 romeo heads and the pi intake. my question is besides the headbolts and gaskets, what else do i need and how difficult is the head swap

I'd never done anything more than an oil change/fuel filter/spark plugs and I changed out one head on my '99 (passenger side)

If you're willing to take your time, label **** as it comes off, have patience, and follow directions, you'll be fine.

I think the WORST part of the entire ****tastic voyage is:
a. valve covers (piece of MFing gaskets blow buttholes and wieners)
b. the 4 bolts holding in the power steering pump
and c. patience/not getting angry when things don't go right the first time

valve covers suck to get off i stripped the 2 back lower ones and ended up breaking /ripping the big part of the cover off enough to get to the head bolts
^^ probly not the best thing to do but... **** happens when you and your friends are drunk.

Dont forget the Oil dipstick... or just buy a lokar flexible one.

lable things and where certain bolts go... somehow I ended up with about 10 extra bolts I dont know where they went nothing leaks.

Dont accidentally break parts... I droped a fuel injector and made a crack in the spray nozzle, and I did something to the spark plug wires to make 2 not fire(We did have a heavy dew and mist the next morning we did it outside and had the parts in a open shed

It was a learning experience for me I have never done more than changing my air intake and my headlights. You always mess up on something your first time, and the mix of alcohol probably didnt help

haha i know what u mean, but its better to prepare yourself in advance...make sure you LABEL all the stuff u take off and organize it together, also patience, if something doesnt go right which it probably wont dont do anything stupid and make it worse...but besides that i did mine in my garage with a few buddies and its definatly something that you can do

was there any special tools needed to do the heads and cams? i wanna do my own and save (est.$3000) dollars instead of having a shop install them.

The only tools that I used, and this is just from my mind, I don't have a list in front of me were:

a 130ish piece socket set.
a deep 18 mm socket ---for 2-3 bolts on timing chain cover
a torque wrench -important for putting everything back together
whatever the air gun/wrench thingy is ---for breaking loose crank pulley bolts
and a breaker bar...for unbolting those head bolts,,which are on there good.. lol
durr....I forgot to mention a crank pulley remover/installer tool---rented from autozone

I think that's about it..that's a pretty shoddy list I'll admit, but it gives you the basics....
I'm thinking I used some kind of .. oh yea.. (edit above)

Again, patience, instructions, directions, patience, organization, patience... and patience
