Default Tires: Hook and handle??

I guess I'm looking for the best of both worlds when it comes to tires. At the moment, with street tires, I just can't get traction in 1st and 2nd gear. Most guys run a drag radial. But most DR have a softer more compliant sidewall to improve traction. For a tire to handle well though, sidewall flex is a bad thing. I know there are track tires designed for handling, but how well do they hook off the line??

My Mustang is 90% a street beast. I rarely drive it in the rain and should I get caught in the rain have the brains to baby it home. So is there a tire out there that can hook and handle well??

Look into the Nitto NT01. It is a 100 TW tire but designed for cornering.

You will have to run the tire all around though. Running a sticky tire out back and not in the front will cause you to push through corners pretty hard.

Depends on your entire set up.

I run the PS2 on my Winter wheels and Toyo R888's on my Summer wheels.

I am more than happy with both, but the R888's are not so great in the rain. You are gonna be a bit stuck in the issue you raised. Softer sidewall = better off-the-line traction, but stiffer sidewall for the twisties. Both my sets of tires are 30 series, so I only address the corners.

I was just going to tell bhim to check out OX's thread on the NT05's. I am looking at them now, but I kind of want to run 245's up from and they dont make them in that. Might just get them and say 'the hell with it' and run 275 all the way around. the price is good on them too at under $200 each
