Default Engine rebuild Problem!!! Please help! SOHC to DOHC convert....

I am in the middle of rebuilding the 2003 Aviator DOHC engine for my 97 GT SOHC to DOHC swap. I got the heads off and took the pistons out. I cleaned out the block and degreased it thoroughly. When I went to check out the cylinders, I found scratches in the cylinders where the piston skirts are on the pistons. I tried to hone them out, but they are still visible. Some of them can be slightly caught by the fingernail. What should I do? The pistons look fine with no scratches on them. What gives? How much honing can I safely do? Or should I just get it bored .020 or .030 over. The trouble with that is the cost of the pistons..

What do you think?

thanks
Phil

bored .020 FTW, would be the best thing you could do to smooth out the sidewalls but then you will need new pistons, good time to forge and add boooost. Don't forget the rods.

only a machine shop can tell you what you will need to have bored out. ive been quoted 50.00 to have one of my blocks magnafluxed, hot tanked and the cylinders, cam bearings, mains and crank checked out. also 100.00 for any boring, crank polished, rods balanced and new cam bearings installed.
