Cam install difficulty?
How hard is it to install a set of cams? I'm not 100% mechanically inclined but I've done my fair share of work on mustangs. I've installed a set of headers on an s197, 2 catbacks, some intakes (I know, easy lol) and my short throw so I can do some stuff.
Installing the cams themselves is not all that hard,Its the degreeing and valvesprings that get people.Degreeing isnt really hard either, just time consuming.Valvesprings suck when done in the car,but again just be patient and have a helping hand and you should be fine. Also getting the timing chains in (timed)correctly is intimidating to some, but as long as you can read a chiltons or one of the many online walkthroughs its a piece of cake.
I was going to pass on the springs and just go with a stage one cam. my car has 40K miles on it but it has been babied to this point. Do you think the springs would be necessary? Also, as far as the tune goes, do I need a dyno tune, or would a handheld or sniper tune be ok?
Dyno tune is neccesay mainly due to idle qualities. The handhelds can control fuel and timing to a point but cant do anything in terms of idle quality.Springs are up to you on a stage one cam. Most companys say you dont need them, but most people will say to get them just for the added security. Its alot cheaper to replace valvesprings than a whole head and new pistons.
