Default Options for built bottom end?

What are the options for a built bottom end? i know of DSS's and MMR's short blocks, but they are both somewhat expensive.

i've heard our blocks can be rebuilt pretty cheap? someone mentioned the Sean Hyland DVD and an ebay ford service manual, and i should be able to practically build my own short block (machining not included of corse)?

just make sure its done right the first time that way you dont end up spending twice as much. I would get something thats been professionally built from a reputable builder. MMR shortblocks are CHEAP. You can get one ready for 600+hp for under $3k. I got a DSS super pro mod shortblock and it has been just awesome sofar. No issues after 20k miles and some beating from the turbo

There is a guy on modular fords that built his own block to handle 1000hp for like $2000. It can be done as long as you have a good machine shop in town. Too bad there are none around me.
