You wont lose power but you will lose some gear.
Only if he has huge tires on those 20s

(I agree I would lose them too, they are just not my style, but if the diameter is kept close the effective gearing should not change)

From what i understand on about rotation mass from a very high resource from a friend whos dad builds fast cars, and a few places i read that every 10 lbs of roatation mass equals to one tenth of a second. Stock GT wheels weigh 28 lbs a wheel with out the tire on it.

The weight has little to do with it, the reason they feel sloooow is becuase having 20" rims is about the equivalent of downgrading to a 2.73 rear end.

bling bling was not ment to go fast. eventhough the tires may be close to the same size those rims will weigh nearly twice as much as stock GT rim. I noticed a diffrence going from stock GT to 03 cobra rims.

Care to explain the math behind that one [sm=icon_beat.gif]

What do you think the guy put monster truck tires on the rear?
If the guy sized his tires correctly as stated above the overall diameter would have been kept the same and there would be absolutely no change in effective gearing.

V8MustangPride & neogenic83 are correct.
The weight of the wheel and tire combo would be what has an effect on your car, especially the 4.6 that has no grunt at all. As far as 10 = .1sec there are way too many variables to give an absolute number for all cars.

Noegenic
If you have chrome 03 Cobras in a 10.5 with 315’s like I do, it is a very heavy combo, and yes with the anemic 4.6 I felt a slight loss too, but my 17†wheel and tire combo weighs more than a forged 20†with 245’s so just because it’s a bigger wheel doesn’t make it heavier you need to look at wheel construction, material, and design. (and usually a 20†tire will weigh less than a 17 with the same width and height because there is a lot less rubber)

Catnip did not ask if anyone liked 20’s he was asking why it didn’t feel as powerful as he thought a Mustang would.

Catnip you need to find another stock mustang to drive, go to a used car lot and drive a different one just to see if that one lives up to your expectations….I don’t think it will, Mustangs are not powerful at all, none have the get up and go that they should.
Drive a few first before you blame the wheels. If you like the wheels keep them, if you don’t toss them.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all the replies. The tires will be coming off if we do get this car. I think we may just get some stock rims for it. I think I read somewhere that these rims weigh about 45lbs each [&:]

I will get some pictures of it if we do go ahead with it.

Thanks again. You guys have been very helpful.

You are incorrect. It isnt just the size of the tire its the size of the rim and tire together. Why do you think I race on 275/60/15's instead of 275/60 17's? The longer it takes that tire to go around then the more rotational mass you have thus reducing gear size. There is no way to put 20's on a car and keep the stock demensions reguardless of what size tire you go with.

20's do not look right on a pre 05 Mustang at all, I wouldn't go any higher than a 18. Also, 20"+ rims are for anyone who wants to buy them, not just for gangsters and white people who want to be black.
