Default bbk shorty header install

I recently bought some bbk shorty headers for my 03 gt. I paid 300 for them from American muscle, and have been looking at places to get them done. Now my g/f's father has a friend who is a ford tech and said he would do them, which sounded good to me because i am very picky when it comes to who i let work on my car. He quoted me anywhere from 300 to 600 which seems outragous to me considering i would be paying for the headers 2 times over just to install them. So my question is what is a fair price for a shorty header install?? I don't have the time to do it myself so that option is out the window for the time being.

thanks in advance

It shouldn't be a very difficult job for him but I'm sure it would book out to that at any shop. If you pay $600 you didn't really get a 'good guy' discount though.

I paid a shop $400 to install my BBK long tubes and shorty h pipe. $300-$600 is a pretty broad range. I wouldn't pay over $300 for this!

I said the same thing. I thought it left to much wiggle room. I'm going to continue to look around for shops that will give me a decent price but i am not looking to spend to much more than 300. Otherwise I guess I'll just sell them and get another mod.

Dude....i have the same ones...sell them and get another mod, it is not worth the money for 1-2 hp...

Actually if you recently bought them, send them back and get long tubes...

I would have to agree with everyone else. Shorties do not breath much better then the stock exhaust manifolds. If you are going to throw headers on def get long tubes. Plus the price you are being quoted is way too high.

You don't want to know what I paid to get my long tubes installed.....I'd skip the shorties for that install cost.

that price is reasonable. do you know what is involved in a header install?

however, to put it in the big picture your basically spending near 1000$ for a very negligable performance gain. longtubes or bust, shorties will pretty much just make your car sound a little better and offer almost no performance gain.
