Default check engine light

If I have really fixed the problem that triggered my "check engine" light, will the light turn off on its own, or do I have to reset something?

Depends on what turned it on. If it was an unplugged MAF sensor, that will turn off in minutes by itself. It was a fugged up 02 sensor, that's not shutting off for a while. Every code has a number of start cycles the engine has to go through before the ecu clears a code on its own.

Just unplug the (-) battery cable for a little while and clear it manually. If you really did fix the problem, the light will not come back on.
