Default differances between 99-2004 GT's

I have been out of the mustang glory for many years and thinking of getting one again. I have narrowed it down between the years 99-04. I don't want to spend too much money so I was wondering what would I be missing out if I bought a 99 Mustang GT compared to newer ones up to 2004? was there any changes to the engine, drivetrain, suspension, brakes. Any input would be great. Thanks

A few. 01 1/2+ cars have different water pumps, so you need different aftermarket underdrive pullies. They also have the Tremec t-3650, the 99-01.5 have the t-45.

Honestly, I'd recommend the 2000. I don't like buying first year car (99). And the cars with 3650's if not taken care of under warranty have bad synchros in the manual trannys. Although I like the hood/spoiler/wheel options on 02+.

If you're going auto it doesn't really matter.

Nicks right with the manual tranny. If you like the hood scoop, full side fins, the spoiler off the newer stangs and the 6 Disc Mach 1 system than I would get a 01. Thats the biggest reason I went with that year.

You couldn't get Mach 1000 until 01? Damn I learned something today

So unless you get the hood/spoiler/wheel options for the 2001, they are identical to the '99-'00 Mustang GT's(unless it was built late in the year it would have the tremec tranny). Also what would a bone stock '99-'01 Mustang GT with the manual tranny run in a 1/4 mile. I've heard around 14.1-14.4 Does that sound right? Also what are the factory rear end gears do the come with? 2.73-3.08?

Manuals came with 3.27s, and autos came with either a 2.73, 3.08, or a rare optioned 3.27. I know the manual gear is right, and I think I am fairly accurate on the autos.

Nope, sorry non-pi autos have those gears.

99-04 GT's auto and manual have 3.27's
Cobras have 3.55's
Machs have 3.55's

I also believe Bullitts have 3.55's as well.

14.1-14.4 sounds very accurate.

The middle console on the 2001+ Mustangs is different that the 99 and 00. They have one or two small decks when the the 01+ comes with double din stereo or a normal stereo with a built in pocket. Also the side fins are full on the 01+ Mustangs and not open sided like the 99's and 00's.
