Whats the point of turning off the EGR valve?

Whoops... I misread your question. All EGR is for is to make the car more "enviroment friendly". It recirculates the gas back into the engine to be reburned. You can cut the pipe and tap it off. You may get a code for it but that can be solved in the tune.

Only real reason to turn off EGR is if you block it. Only real reason to block it is if you have a wildly mod'd engine with large cam that causes low idle probs. I thought about blocking my EGR when I reworked my TB/Plenum. I researched and found no good reason. EGR helps to lower combust temp and prevent detonation. When you are cruising down the highway at 70, the computer can inject a little exhaust and bump up the timing and you get better mileage and less bad emissions. Can you find all kinds of molecular explanations on it on the internet if you are interested.
