Question KB 6PSI kit on non-PI motor

I need some advice.

I'm interested in getting my '98 GT up to around 350 RWHP. It's a daily driver, and I'm just looking for some more fun. This car will not see the track. I'm interested in the Kenne Bell 6PSI kit, as it would be an easy bolt on that will get me to about 350 RWHP without a lot of modifications. My problem is that they don't make the 96-98 kit anymore, and if I switch to the PI heads, the bump in compression will force me to go with an intercooled kit which is more expensive and a lot more to install. So here are my options as I see them.

1) Use the Livernois adapter plates and deal with possible hood clearance or belt length problems. Thoughts?

2) Use the same RTV sealant techniques employed when installing a PI intake on non-PI heads. Too risky? This would be the easiest.

3) Put the PI heads on with a 6 PSI kit and see if the tuner can back the timing off enough to run 93 octane.

4) Go with a centri and 410s instead.

What do you think? I'm kind of partial to going with the KB because I like the torque on the street. If I was on the mainland I would forge the bottom end, drop the cr to 8.5:1 and be done with it, but I'm in Hawaii, and shop time is about double what it is back home. Example: I was quoted $1000 - $1200 for a rear end gear install.

Thanks for your time.

David

just do the PI swap and get the 9 psi ic kit... its well worth the money. You wont be happy with 6 psi forever and you will need a i/c to up the boost past that, so you might as well get the i/c now and save yourself a headache. If you cant aford to get the i/c kit with the k/b, dont bother until you have the funding to get them both...

EDIT: BTW, install of these kits are a piece of cake. All you need are simple hand tools

All i can say is that a twin screw is way more fun than a centrifigual. I know because i've driven both. I would save and do the pi swap with the 9psi intercooled Kenne Bell kit.

i own both a screw and centri, centri is much better. having boost at low rpms doesnt mean much, imo, unless u in a truck. true if you are in a tall gear a stomp the thottle u will get boost vs a centri but if you were going to race someone your would downshift anyways to get your rpms up where a centri is more efficient than a screw blower. and centri kit are less expensive too. that extra $$$ can but used towards a custom tune u will need to ensure you car is running properly. anyways, if you are dead set on the kb, get the i/c like tim said. ull be glad u did down the road b/c 6 psi will not be enough after awhile. also if you are trying to keep costs down you could run the adapters but you might have to run a different belt to keep the proper tension. if u do the pi swap, then the i/c would be a good idea and you could get the heads worked drop the c/r. such as removing the shrouds over the intake valve and smoothing out the camber to lower the c/r a bit. you could do the pi swap later down the road too then just remove the adapter plates and sell them. i think a centri will be much less expressive though.

Hey guys, I havent been on the forums in forever. But just to put in my 2 pennies. Doing the pi swap will raise your compression to 10.7:1 and there is no way that you could run 9psi on that. 5-6 psi is pushing it. Just for something more to think about. haha. If you're going FI high compression is really not the way you want to start. Just for an example the 03-04 cobra's run 8.5:1. And we alllllll know how that motor is the end all be all of production awesomeness. haha.

True... but if he does get the 9 psi i/c kit, they send you a brand new set to use.

4.10 with a centri blower would really be nice and cheaper than KB.
