P1SC vs D1SC
#11
I heard that if you buy a new kit, the D-1SC is only $400-500 more than a P-1SC. If you buy a new head unit separately ProCharger told me it was $2800 (but discounts are probably available). They also told me $1400 to upgrade the P-1SC to a D-1SC. The D-1SC has a different gear set and propeller design. The same pulley on a D-1SC will make a lot more boost than on a P-1SC.
That said I don't believe the upgrade is worth it unless you forge the motor. The P-1SC is capable of making more horsepower than the stock rotating assembly can stand. The standard 8 lbs pulley on a stock motor gets around 350 rwhp (manual transmission). The 10 lb pulley near 400 rwhp. A lot of people have run 12 lb pulleys pushing above 400 rwhp but I'm not one to recommend going that high on boost alone. Additional mods such as cams and exhaust take some of the stress off the rods and pistons and help the motor run 420 rwhp safely. I've read that belt slippage with a 6 rib belt doesn't really become a problem unless you are going over 14 lbs which is not something your likely to do on a stock motor. But even then you can overcome belt slippage by going to an overdrive crank pulley instead of a smaller supercharger pulley.
You can alway send in the head unit for an upgrade later should you forge your motor. Until then, use the $1200-1400 for something else.
