Default Electrical Problem

I have a 97 gt, and im not sure what happened, but as i was driving my car i turned on my sound system and immediatly noticed that the speakers seemed to be dying out, and i looked at my battery gage and it was in the almost int he red, and it was dead still wouldnt move at all, so I immediatly pulled over and shut off the car to take a look under the hood, didnt notice anything so i started up hte car again and it seemed like it barley kicked over, i shut if off again, then it would kick over at all. My neighbor came to give me a jump , and it started up right away when it was jumped, but the battery gage was still in the red. Luckily i managed to get it home, but i also noticed on the way home my spedometer and rmp meter just jerked back and forth till they eventually just died out, then shorty after i pulled infront of my house and the car stalled out again. I was wondering what this can possibly be, alternator possibly?

Yes its definantly your alternator its to weak and cant power your amp buy a more powerful alternator and it should run fine. Until you buy a new higher output alternator dont put the stero on. Good Luck

I'm told stock is 110 amps for the 4.6.

Anyway, I fanned a copy of MM&FF and found www.pa-performance.com. They offer 130, 170, and 200 amp for the 4.6. I wouldn't go higher the the 170, but the 130 should be fine, unless you start using the bass module to push the car!

Don't forget to check your battery first. In some cases, a bad bat will suck enough from the system to kill it.

Good luck.
