Default This knock is driving me crazy. Any ideas?

I am beyond annoyed at this point. Ever since I got my mustang, with the 2V engine, it has had a mystery knock. I rebuilt the engine and the knock remained. I rebuilt the timing system and the knock remained. I put a 4V engine and the sum bitch is STILL knocking.

Now, I reused the exhaust pipes, the fly wheel, the metal gasket, the transmission and the starter. Everything else is from the new motor. When I had the pan off, I checked the mains and rod caps and there was zero play in them. Some days it's louder than others too. The colder it is outside, the louder it knocks and it quiets down significantly when it's hot. With a stethoscope, it loudest at the transmission. There is NO knocking coming from the oil pan or head region of this motor, which is also exactly like the 2V.

Anyway, here is the video. Any ideas?

When I first brought the car home, I don't remember the knocking, but after "testing" the car out, it started knocking. I never lost power or anything, but it just started.

Does it go away when you press in the clutch?

No, it doesn't, which takes away the transmission as the problem.

Correct, so I'd say it is your flywheel contacting something.Does the car still have cats?

Yep, the car still has the factory cats on it. I am starting to wonder if the flywheel is cracked. The rhythm in which it knocks and the speed of it increasing leads me here. I am going to pull the clutch cable cover tomorrow and see if I can't wiggle it, see if it makes noise.

I was gonna suggest maybe a cat melted and is knocking around in there but after listening to the video again it sounds to constant with the rpm to be that.I would definately check into the flywheel.Who installed the motors, yourself or a shop?

Me and every single time I forgot to check the damned thing. I even forgot to get it resurfaced when I put the new clutch on It completely slipped my mind on the rebuild.

I was just going to ask you if you had it resurfaced while the engine was out because they would have caught it.
I think your going to have to pull the trans. on this one look around in the bell housing for signs of rubbing or contact.
Given that this sound has followed through with Stock,Rebuilt and now 4V swap you have to assume that it is in the Transmission or Exhaust (Which I doubt)
