Question electrical woes

my father in law bought a 1999 4.6 gt mustang used, drove it for about two months and parked it. the car sat for a month and a half when he went to start it the battery was dead so he took it out and charged it, when he put it back in, the car started but no throttle just idles so a few days later he goes to start the car but now it just turns over so he bought a new fuel pump from auto zone and installed it now the car starts and idles again but still no throttle... any body else have this problem before? i think some kind of sensor went out maybe a throttle position sensor but i don't know if the car is drive by wire or not and i don't know how to test the sensor if its bad or not any body got any ideas and info thanks

So car turns on but when you hit gas pedal nothing happens? Is the butterfly opening on throttle body. Possible linkage broke. Manually open up the throttle body butterfly by hand and see if it revs. If not, yes look to tps.
