engine light question
ok so first question...i know this has already been asked cuz i read it but cant remember the solution...why is that when u break alittle hard the parking break light comes on? is that an easy fix? and second question is about the green light next to the break light of a little blower looking thing. i lost my manual or i would refer to that but what is this light? and howcome sometimes when i want to get on it that light comes on and i feel like i lose all my power? can i fix this? thx
Not really 100% on this, but pretty sure your parking brake light shouldn't flash under heavy braking. In addition to my '01 GT, I have two other Fords ('06 Ranger and '04 Windstar) that do not do that under heavy braking or when ABS is triggered, nor do either of my grandfathers Lincoln Town Cars (lots of Fords in this family...). I'd first check your brake fluid, make sure it's full, and brake pads for wear. If your fluid is low, top it off and take a look at the pads; as they wear down not as much fluid is returned to the reservoir (in theory anyway). That green light on your dash is the Traction Control indicator lamp; when it's lit up then Traction Control is on/activated which is why your car falls flat on it's butt when you try to get on it. Hit the button that's in the shifter console (the center one of the three, mine has a little logo that looks like the green light on your dash; I think '02-up cars it says "Trac Off" or something like that) to turn it off. I think it resets itself each time you start the car, like the rear window defroster, so you'll need to turn it off each time you get in the car. My friend had a '99 GT and hated that button, he would sometimes forget to turn it off and end up feeling like a loser when trying to take off from a light and the mean nanny would take his gas pedal away. If you get a tuner (SCT, Diablo, etc.) you can permanently turn it off and not have to worry about it anymore.
sorry havent been on in awhile and i figured all that out now. it was the breaks they needed replaced that explained the light. and as for the green light...yea i feel like an idiot for asking that ha but still thank you so much for the explanations!
Know you've already got your problem taken care of, but the next most common reason I see for the red brake light other than the fluid actually being low is the floater being stuck. There's a little floater in the reservoir and sometimes it will get stuck near the bottom and so the car thinks your fluid is low.
