Default 03 GT A/OD Trans chatter btwn shifts???

Common problem/issue and or nothing to really worry about?

4,000 miles on car, 4 spd AOD, usually at slow speeds when it can't seem to make up its mind whether or not to shift into 1st or 2nd. It has only happened 3 or 4 times in the month that I've owned the car.

Any thoughts?

TIA
Gary

Must be a black 03 auto thing. But, no if you mean it kind of shifts hard or clunks when it shifts especially 3-4 at 35-40 then, yes it's normal.

Nice 100th, check out www.blackmustangclub.com

Yeah it is mormal for the trans to shift like that when going that fast (30-40 mph) mine used to do it also. It does not dit any more not that I have a shift kit installed. If you would like to get rid of that clunk when it shifts and make you auto shift like it should from the factory get a good shift kit installed.

No, not a firm shift problem, what I meant is chatter. Feels like wheel hop only it's in the tranny. I'm in my late 30's and have grown up around muscle cars and high end European cars so I'm aware of Lincoln style firm shifts or Cadillac soft shifts.

When slowing in traffic or approaching a red light that just turns green, trans shifts into 2nd AND THEN as you apply throttle at just the right amount the tranny wants to shift into 1st for the power but decides to stay into 2nd but argues with itself no 1st, no 2nd. This happens quickly like (sorry for the poor analogy) rolling your 'R's' as in Spanish language or like Rrrrrrrrruffles have Rrrrrrrridges. Get it.

As I said in the first post, it has only happened 3 or 4 times in months driving. I just want to make sure I don't have an issue creeping up on me.

Much appreciation for the replies and thanks for the web reference to the Blackmustangclub. Going to check it out right now....

Yeah that is exicalty what mine did before I installed the shift kit now it does not argue with itself when shifting and when it changes gears you know it!!! I believe that it is a normal thing with thoes transmissions as mine did it also, if you want to fix it and have more fun driveing get yourself a good shift kit!! (I recommond a Trans-Go one)

Install a Trans-go and watch the tranny blow.

Just get a chip to put some more into the tranny as far as shifting goes. Also having 4k and being 2 years old concerns me a little to think maybe this is why they sold it. Should still have 3/36 factory warranty left, take it to the dealer.

If you've been watching the last few months, I have the SAME problem, but I have an AOD-E in my 00 GT... Mine has progressively gotten worse over the last year and a half. I've talked to a host of tranny specialists and received most of the same advice.

Off the top, I've been told it could be as simple as Loose/Broken Flexplate/Torque Converter bolts, Cracked flexplate.. Or as extensive as bad Bands/Clutch packs..

Since I've been having some issues w/ my car other than driveability, it's been on the back burner for some time now, but I've been saving, and it looks like I'm having my tranny rebuilt w/ the Trans-go and a good T/C at a 2400 Stall speed.

If you have time to have the tranny taken out, check the links before your assume it's the tranny itself.. May save some serious cash...
