4.6 starter removal???? i have no idea
so to unbolt my exhaust (to ultimately pull the motor) i need to take off the starter. which if you can imagine 9 panda bears in a vw beatle and you trying to reach your keys under the front seat.... thats about how much room there is to get tools up in there... input much appreciated

its actually really easy. there are only two bolts, the bottom one you can get out with a socket and ratchet, the top you'll need some extensions, and can get at it in front of the k member, just get under there and take a look.
And, if your're removing your exhaust, you don't need to take the starter off.
your analogy is way off btw lol.

Your car must have been worked on before if it only had 2 bolts in the starter lol. There are 3 bolts in the starter most guys get lazy and only put 2 back in. The last one is a bitch to get back in.

yeah there are two bolts on the bottom and one on the top. i had to replace my starter a few months ago, and much to my surprise, after the 2nd bottom bolt came out so did the starter. the shop that built my engine last year must have just left the top bolt off. i used a swivel ratchet and several different extensions and it wasn't too bad to get to all the bolts.
