How to rotate my tires?
No, really though, how is everyone rotating their tires who are running different sizes from front to back on directional tires? I just installed 2 rims and 4 new tires with 245/45/17 up front and 285/35/18 in back. Im assuming that all the tires have to be unmounted then remounted on the opposite side? How often is everyone actually rotating them in my situation? The car is riding perfect right now and i want to keep it that way as long as possible. Thanks

Correct, you cannot rotate you tires in the traditional mannor and have to dis-mount them as described. I actually had a set of Goodyear Gatorbacks many years ago and were not only directional for rotation, but designed for a specific SIDE of the car. I could not rotate even if I wanted to.
The answer is, I don't rotate at all and have not done so for many years. My tires up front require replacement quite a bit prior to the rears due to a couple things. I have -2° camber and NEVER burn out the rear tires. I just had a new set of R888's installed and the rear tires were not quite to the warning bars and beginning to show cords on inside of tire up front. I could have had the fronts dismounted and swapped, but tires were getting heat cycled out anyway.

I'm screwed pretty much for my tires being rotated due to the pattern, Ill just have to save money for a new set or atleast the rears. I use to rotate every oil change or every other oil change, but unfortunatly theres no way for me to really rotate them now. I guess depending on your tires, the only way would be to unmount tires and swap sides. But really the only time I ever had to rotate (when I had stocks) was when I burnt down the rears and rotated from front to rear. Hope this helps and nice mustang by the way.

I never rotate my tires, I just keep them balanced and replace them when its time. Like the others said you will have to have them unmounted and put on the other sides.

Like jazzer I run a bunch of negative camber up front, this chews up the tire's inner edge but the VAST improvement in handling is worth changing tires once a year or so.
Also, and like many others, I never rotate the tires on the Mustang--for me treadlife is a far second to handling characteristics. With the Falken Azenis RT-615s I run (200 treadware; 245/45-17 up front; 275/40-17 in back) even if they were the same size you'd have to rotate them once every 2000 miles to accomplish anything.
