remove your COP's too
cover those items with plastic so no water gets into them. I didn't cover my MAF when i washed the engine. Just the Coils, alternator really.
Make sure your spark plug holes in the heads a water free before you install the coils back into them. I did that on mistake one time and it took me a while to figure out why it was missing

garden hose, simple green, tooth brush/assorted brushes and rags coupled with good old elbow grease and have at it.
given enough time and topping it off with some armor-all on rubber hoses etc and it will look brand new.

once you get the major gunk off, go get a 20$ hand held steamer + some brushes to get any leftover gunk off and get into those cracks and crevices.
maybe get a wire brush and clean off some of that rust. intake manifold looks beatiful out of all that though haha.
